It's only getting worse

Ugh, bad news gets worse every day. Today's bad news started with word that the Strause Brothers are directing AVP 2. AVP 1 was bad enough. But effects guys directing is just a step further down. I mean, the track record for effect people directing is not good. Did anyone see Komodo or Starship Troopers 2?
And then the real bad news came. An american remake of one of the best movies ever, Battle Royale, is in the works.
Why?
BR is such an awesome movie already, and it's not that old. Why remake it? It's pretty much as perfect as it can be already!!!
I wonder if it's possible that Hollywood will go out of buisness in the near future. Maybe video games and indie films will take over completely. Yeah right. Not likely.

It's crazy that Hollywood is so monotonus right now, as there are an amazing amount of movies floating just under the surface of mainstream Hollywood.

I went to a tiny little film frstival last year, and I saw so many things that I'd never get a chance to see in the theaters. Open Water and Napolean were shown before anyone knew what they were. There was a hilarious mockumentary called Blackballed starring Rob Corddry along with most of the Daily Show crew.

But the standout of the show was this incredibly heartfelt tearjerker of a movie called Madame Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing and Charm School. It never got picked up into wide release, but I heard it comes out on dvd this week. Pick it up and watch it with Dorothy, and if you don't like it I'll give you your money back on the spot.

I went back to the festival this year, and saw a movie that I think will become a Sean Skube Instant Classic: The Descent. It's a totally insane and well-directed survival horror movie. It's Aliens meets Deliverance. And it's gory as hell.

We need to start getting the band back together and heading out to see some good movies. They're still out there!
